| xtensive found a way to keep the major hardware inside the ECU. Cost is dramatically reduced, and IMO the NVSRAM solution is far less prone to noise and error like a true external emulator is. The problem with emulators is you connect them to the socket with a bundle of wires, and the hardware then sits outside of the ECU. Also emulators can freeze up, albeit very rare, but the NVSRAM solution never will. Also the interface is a lot cleaner. Once the ECU has been updated with the NVSRAM xtensive's solution lets you just hook the PC up to a small consult board (fairly inexpensive) and plug it into the consult port. The 'other' setup you mentioned is also a good solution. Even after taking all of the above into consideration it gets the job done, and has a very good software interface. Don't let me sway you from it; just be aware that xtensive is working on an alternative.
